Position SummaryThe Field Service Technician performs on-site refrigerant recovery and related field services for commercial, industrial, and institutional customers. This role requires safe operation of recovery equipment, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering an exceptional customer experience. Technicians work independently while representing RTI in the field and supporting customers throughout every stage of a project.
Primary Responsibilities
- Travel to customer locations to perform refrigerant recovery and related field services.
- Safely operate recovery equipment, cylinders, and supporting tools in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
- Inspect equipment before and after use to ensure proper operation and report maintenance needs.
- Accurately complete service documentation, work orders and required reporting.
- Communicate professionally with customers before, during and after service visits.
- Coordinate with dispatch and operations to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.
- Maintain assigned company vehicle, tools and equipment in clean, safe working condition.
- Follow OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company safety requirements at all times.
- Identify opportunities to support customers with additional RTI services when appropriate.
- Participate in ongoing technical and safety training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous HVAC, mechanical, construction, industrial services, or related field experience preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn specialized recovery equipment.
- Ability to work independently and manage daily schedules.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Basic computer and mobile device proficiency for completing electronic documentation.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedules, travel requirements, and customer needs.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- EPA Section 608 Universal Certification preferred or willingness to obtain after hire.
- Ability to meet applicable DOT medical requirements for the position.
- Additional certifications may be required based on territory or assigned responsibilities.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Frequent driving between customer locations.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and work in mechanical environments.
- Regular lifting of equipment and cylinders weighing up to 75 pounds, with occasional heavier lifting using proper equipment and safe lifting practices.
